Romaine F. Johnson, MD, MPH, FACS, is a Professor in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he serves as Director of the Otolaryngology Quality and Safety Program and holds the Beth and Marvin "Cub" Culbertson Professorship in Pediatric Otolaryngology. He is also Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Program Director of the MD/MPH Dual Degree Program at the Peter O'Donnell Jr. School of Public Health. Dr. Johnson is Editor in Chief of Laryngoscope Investigative Otolaryngology, the Triological Society's open-access journal.
Dr. Johnson earned his medical degree at the Drexel University College of Medicine. He completed an otolaryngology residency at the Baylor College of Medicine and a pediatric fellowship at Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center. He received a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania and a Master of Public Health from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.
Dr. Johnson's research interests include pediatric tracheostomy, peritonsillar abscess, subglottic stenosis, obstructive sleep apnea, vocal cord paralysis, quality improvement, and airway simulation. His clinical interests include pediatric aerodigestive disorders.
Dr. Johnson is a Fellow of the American Laryngological, Rhinological, and Otological Society (the Triological Society); the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery; and the American College of Surgeons. He is an active member of the American Society of Pediatric Otolaryngology, the American Broncho-Esophagological Association, the American Laryngological Association, the Harry Barnes Medical Society, the National Medical Association, and the Society of Black Academic Surgeons, and a lifetime member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
