This session will provide background on the public health impacts of climate change and describe greenhouse gas emissions sources in otolaryngologic surgical care. We will then reframe quality improvement through the lens of the “Triple Bottom Line” to promote the inclusion of environmental sustainability in quality assessment. By considering the environmental impact of care delivery, quality assessment using the "Triple Bottom Line" strives to achieve high quality care by accounting for the negative downstream impacts of pollution on our patients and the planet. We will describe a number of data-supported, achievable sustainability initiatives that improve quality by reducing cost and emissions while providing safe and effective care.
