I am an otolaryngologist affiliated to the Machakos level 5 hospital, Machakos County, Kenya. The hospital is 60kms to the south east of the capital city Nairobi and serves a rural population with a high burden of head and neck conditions. I am a member of the Kenya Ear Nose Throat Society (KENTS) and the co-chair of the global Otolaryngology Head and Neck initiative (global OHNS initiative). I am driven by a desire to provide the highest quality of otolaryngology care especially to those with challenges accessing it through participation and collaboration in policy formation, research and improvement of personal skill and knowledge. My special clinical interest area is in Head and Neck oncology.
I have been part of the team involved in the organization of the Malindi Head and Neck Surgical camp, a yearly short term surgical mission with a regional reach in collaboration with Vanderbilt University Medical Centre under the guidance of Professor Jim Netterville, and we have published our experience on effective collaboration in organizing Short term surgical trips. I have participated in several regional and global OHNS research initiatives through the global OHNS initiative, key among them being the Delphi method consensus on Global Otolaryngology head and neck priority procedures and conditions.
