Mas Takashima, MD, Sylvia and James E Norton New Century Chair in Otolaryngology, Professor and Chair, Dept. of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery, Houston Methodist Academic Institute. He leads a team of 39 facculty members and has started an ACGME otolaryngology residency program and fellowship.
After obtaining his bachelor’s at Rice University, Dr. Takashima received his medical degree from Baylor College of Medicine where he also served his general surgery internship and residency in otolaryngology—head and neck surgery. He then spent time with Dr. PJ Wormald at the University of Adelaide in Australia where he learned advanced techniques in rhinology and skull base surgery.
He spent several years in Denver at National Jewish Medical Center, the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center and 14 years at Baylor College of Medicine as PD and Vice Chair of Education before taking the leadership role of professor and chair in the Department of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery (OTO/HNS) at Houston Methodist. He currently leads a team of 30 faculty and oversees the main Texas Medical Center location as well as the 7 regional hospitals. Houston Methodist was also recently approved for an ACGME accredited OTO/HNS residency program which started in 2022. We also have an AFPRS accredited fellowship starting in 2023 along with a neurotology fellowship split between Houston Methodist, MD Anderson, and Baylor College of Medicine.
Dr. Takashima is double boarded in Otolaryngology – Head and Neck Surgery and Sleep Medicine. He is also currently the Treasurer of the AAOA Foundation Board and serves as a Director for the American Board of Otolaryngology - Head & Neck Surgery.
