Hyung-Tae Kim, MD, PhD, is the Chief Director of Yeson Voice Center in Seoul, South Korea, and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at The Catholic University of Korea.
Dr. Kim has devoted his career to the evaluation and surgical management of voice disorders, with particular interests in phonosurgery, laryngeal reconstruction surgery, and gender-affirming voice care. Since 2003, he has treated more than 1,500 transgender women and has accumulated one of the largest single-surgeon experiences in gender-affirming voice surgery.
He developed Vocal Fold Shortening and Retrodisplacement of the Anterior Commissure (VFSRAC), a surgical technique designed to optimize pitch elevation while preserving physiologic vocal function. Through continuous refinement of the procedure, his work has focused on achieving stable long-term outcomes and improving the understanding of vocal biomechanics in transgender voice care.
Dr. Kim serves as General Secretary of the International Association of TransVoice Surgeons (IATVS), where he collaborates with international colleagues to advance education, research, and standards of care in transgender voice surgery. He is also the Founder and Chairman of the Korean Foundation for Voice of Performing Arts (KOVPA) and serves as Vice President of the Korea International Medical Association.
His current academic interests include gender-affirming voice surgery, laryngeal reconstruction, neurolaryngology, and objective voice assessment for the performing arts.
