Dr. Gratien Tuyishimire is a Senior Consultant ENT Surgeon and the ENT Course Co-Director at the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) in Rwanda. He completed his medical degree and residency at the University of Rwanda, later serving as a Clinical Lecturer at the University Teaching Hospital of Kigali (CHUK). A pioneer in decentralized specialized care, Dr. Tuyishimire founded the first ENT clinic at Butaro Teaching Hospital in rural Rwanda, led nationwide ENT basic training for primary healthcare providers, and initiated targeted surgical bootcamps. His systemic advocacy also successfully secured vital ENT equipment provisions across 10 Rwandan district hospitals. A former Vice President of the Rwanda Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery Society, an active member of the international Global OHNS Initiative, and a UCSF CHESA Fellowship alumnus (2023–2024), he is currently pursuing an Otology and Neurotology Fellowship at Max Subspecialty Hospital in New Delhi, India. His career remains dedicated to leveraging medical education and structural advocacy to make ENT services accessible to vulnerable populations.
