Shannon Elizabeth Fulp, MD, FAWM is a board-certified otolaryngologist and Fellow of the Academy of Wilderness Medicine with over two decades of experience in head and neck surgery, pediatric ENT, wilderness medicine, and physician leadership. She earned her undergraduate and medical degrees with highest honors from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, followed by surgical internship and residency training in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Duke University Medical Center.
Dr. Fulp currently serves as Assistant Professor at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine and practices with Carilion Clinic in Roanoke, Virginia, where she focuses on general and pediatric otolaryngology. Her clinical interests include airway management, hyperbaric and wound care medicine, alpine and wilderness medicine, and physician well-being.
A former Chief of Surgery and hospital Chief of Staff, Dr. Fulp has held numerous medical society leadership roles and remains actively engaged in surgical quality improvement and medical education. She is also a longtime member of the National Ski Patrol and a certified Search and Rescue Technician, integrating her passion for wilderness medicine with clinical expertise.
