Medical Student
UCLA
Christine Mavilian is a 3rd year medical student at the UCLA David Geffen School of Medicine. Prior to medical school, she earned both her Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in Physiological Science from UCLA. Her interest in otolaryngology is deeply personal, stemming from her own experience with unilateral sensorineural hearing loss. This perspective has shaped her commitment to advancing hearing healthcare and has inspired her longstanding involvement in global health initiatives. Through her involvement in nonprofit work in Armenia, she has helped facilitate access to cochlear implantation for children and young adults with deafness and profound hearing loss, working to reduce barriers to hearing care in underserved communities. Her research interests span community health, global health, and translational research aimed at improving hearing and ear health across diverse populations. She is particularly interested in addressing disparities in access to hearing healthcare, evaluating clinical and patient-centered outcomes in otology, and translating scientific discoveries into innovative approaches that improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of otologic disease. By integrating basic science, clinical research, and community-engaged initiatives, she hopes to advance equitable, high-quality otologic care both locally and globally. Outside of medicine, she enjoys traveling, staying active outdoors, and painting.
