Dr. Kupferman is senior vice president of Clinical and Academic Network Development at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. In this role, he leads the development, management and growth of clinical oncology and research programs across MD Anderson Cancer Network, inclusive of domestic and international partnerships. During his tenure, the Cancer Network has grown to over 20 domestic partnerships and members in 16 states, including some of the largest health systems in the San Diego, Phoenix, Philadelphia, Jacksonville and San Antonio markets. He also led the development of a national clinical trials network, and has responsibility for population health initiatives and public policy platforms with international governmental agencies and NGOs.
He also is professor of Head and Neck Surgery with expertise in the surgical management of pediatric head and neck cancers and skull base tumors. An internationally recognized expert in head and neck oncology, Dr. Kupferman’s clinical practice focuses on upper aerodigestive tract cancers, melanoma, salivary gland and skull base tumors, as well as robotic surgery of the head and neck. He has dual appointments as professor of Neurosurgery at MD Anderson and adjunct professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine.
He obtained his medical degree from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania and completed his residency in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. He then completed a fellowship in advanced head and neck surgical oncology at MD Anderson and received his MBA from the Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University.
