The target audience for this guideline includes all clinicians, including allied health providers, who are involved in the diagnosis and management of adult patients (18 years and older) with tinnitus. Patients with tinnitus may be evaluated across a wide range of clinical settings by various healthcare professionals, including primary care clinicians, specialty physicians, and allied health providers such as audiologists and mental health professionals. This guideline is applicable in any setting in which these patients are identified or treated, including primary care offices, audiology clinics, urgent care centers, emergency departments, otolaryngology practices, and allergy clinics, among others.

Learning Objectives:

Clinicians will enhance their ability to accurately diagnose tinnitus and to identify important tinnitus characteristics, key comorbidities, and serious underlying conditions.
Clinicians will follow evidence-based recommendations for managing tinnitus, including evidence-based use of cognitive behavioral therapy, sound enrichment, amplification, cochlear implantation, and neuromodulation, while avoiding non-evidence based treatments[
Empower clinicians to educate patients and their families about management of tinnitus and to engage them in shared decision-making and the process of follow-up.
