This session highlights both ethical and practical controversies surrounding cochlear implantation. Cases will be used to discuss topics ranging from antibiotics use in pediatric and adult cochlear implant in the perioperative period and with complications, management of acute otitis media in the postoperative period and management of pressure equalizing tubes with cochlear implantation. Additionally, the panel will consider preoperative vaccination and how to approach conversations with families amidst growing skepticism of vaccinations in our patient population.

Discuss the current literature and practice patterns around use of antibiotics in cochlear implantation in children and adults
Compare the options of management of acute otitis media and pressure equalizing tubes in the postoperative period after cochlear implantation.
Understand approaches to identifying and addressing patient concerns regarding preoperative vaccination in cochlear implantation
