Mitra Alikhani is an MD candidate at Stanford University School of Medicine. A former ICU and OR nurse, she brings a patient-centered perspective to her NIH R25-funded research year in otolaryngology and surgical innovation.
Under the mentorship of Dr. Michelle Chen, Mitra has investigated financial hardship and nutritional burden among head and neck cancer survivors, examining how treatment costs shape care access, quality of life, and clinical outcomes in this high-need population. In the coming year, she will extend her research portfolio through Stanford Biodesign, focusing on biomedical device innovation.
Mitra has presented at the AHNS International Conference and the Stanford Biodesign program, and has spoken on AI in medicine for emerging physician-scientists. She is a candidate for otolaryngology residency and plans to pursue a career integrating oncologic care, surgical innovation, and health equity.
