Noor-E-Seher Ali, MD

Dr. Noor Ali recently completed her residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery at Southern Illinois University. Currently, she is taking a sabbatical from clinical practice but looks forward to going back to the workforce in a few months.

Her academic interests center on gender equity, wellness, and inclusivity in surgical training. She has published and presented on topics such as authorship trends, pregnancy during residency, and strategies for creating supportive environments for childbearing surgeons. She is active nationally in otolaryngology leadership, including as the incoming Chair of the Women in Otolaryngology Communications Committee and as a member of the DEI Committee, where she helps drive efforts to improve representation, access, and voice in the field.

As a minority, hijab-wearing woman in surgery, Dr. Ali brings a deeply personal perspective on overcoming cultural and systemic barriers. She is passionate about mentorship, particularly for trainees from underrepresented backgrounds, and remains committed to advocating for structural and cultural change that supports both personal and professional growth in medicine.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Ali is a proud mother of two young children and an avid coffee enthusiast trained in the coffee arts. She is committed to showing that pursuing a demanding surgical career and raising a family can coexist—and to building systems that make that balance more attainable for others.
