Nathan Barefoot is a fourth-year medical student at the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University, currently completing a year-long research fellowship in the Department of Otolaryngology at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine. Originally from Greensboro North Carolina, Nathan graduated from the University of Virginia in 2020 with a degree in Biomedical Engineering.
Throughout medical school, Nathan has been deeply engaged in mentorship and community service. He has been an individual and group tutor for multiple courses and served as the President of the Brody Ambassadors Mentorship Program, which connects undergraduate premedical students with medical student mentors. Nathan is also a Leaders in Innovative Care (LINC) Scholar at ECU, a longitudinal distinction track focused on quality improvement, patient safety, and healthcare leadership. Nathan has received multiple honors and awards throughout medical school, including an academic scholarship, the Huffman Award for achieving the highest preclinical GPA, the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Student Excellence award, and honors in all third-year core clinical clerkships.
In his free time, Nathan enjoys weightlifting, traveling, and following sports, especially tennis, hockey, college football and basketball. He values spending time with friends and family and is pursuing a career in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery.
