2LT Sophia McKenzie is a fourth-year medical student at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Maryland, and a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point. While at West Point, she competed as a Division I student-athlete on the Army Women’s Tennis Team and served as team captain. Sophia is pursuing a career in otolaryngology and has been actively involved in clinical research focused on antimicrobial stewardship, surgical outcomes, graduate medical education and otologic surgery. Her scholarly work has been recognized through presentations at regional and national conferences, and she was recently awarded the Emma L. Bockman Memorial Research Award to expand her research on antibiotic stewardship within military surgical care. Beyond her academic pursuits, Sophia is committed to leadership, service, and medical education. She serves in leadership roles within the Gold Humanism Honor Society and has helped organize community outreach initiatives focused on supporting military-connected youth and their families. Through these efforts, she aims to promote resilience, strengthen community connections, and improve access to resources for military families. Following graduation, Sophia hopes to continue serving as an Army physician while pursuing residency training in otolaryngology–head and neck surgery.
