Dr. Justin Soffer is a PGY-4 resident in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. Born in San Francisco and raised in Orlando, Florida, he is a child of immigrants from Austria and Iraq — a background that has shaped his commitment to culturally responsive, patient-centered care.
He completed his Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience at UCLA and earned his medical degree from Tufts University School of Medicine. He is currently completing residency training in Otolaryngology with plans to pursue fellowship training in Head and Neck Surgery, and currently serves on the AHNS Head and Neck Surgery Education Committee.
His academic interests center on head and neck oncologic reconstruction, surgical innovation, and outcomes research. He has led or co-authored over a dozen peer-reviewed publications spanning head and neck reconstruction, laryngeal cancer treatment disparities, thyroid surgery outcomes, and skull base oncology. At UTHSC, his JIAD research program includes a published scoping review and an ongoing national survey study, the results of which he presented as a podium talk at the 2026 AHNS International Meeting in Boston. He is also the principal investigator of a $50,000 UTHSC Access to Cancer Care Grant-funded prospective clinical trial evaluating patient navigation and timeliness of care for head and neck cancer patients presenting through the emergency department.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Soffer is conversational in Spanish and German, holds dual U.S.–Austrian citizenship, and enjoys golf, pickle ball, tennis, culinary arts, and international travel.
