David Joseph Dillard is a third year medical student attending VCOM Auburn and current Rhinology Research Fellow at UNC Chapel Hill. His research interests include non-invasive surgical procedures for sleep apnea like balloon-assisted septoplasty and ventral tongue based ablation for sleep apnea.
Early in his undergraduate medical education, David studied pharyngeal swallowing mechanics in patients stroke and ALS patients, presenting "Unraveling the Swallow: How Stroke Impacts Pharyngeal Swallowing Mechanics" at the American Association for Anatomy. He went on to present at several national and international conferences. One of his most recent podium presentation is entitled “Revisiting Zileuton: A Non-Biologic Alternative in the Treatment of Nasal Sinus Polyposis." One of his recent publications include "Outcomes of force-directed balloon-assisted endoscopic septoplasty: a retrospective analysis with a new technique and device" in Rhinology Online.
David currently serves as the president of the Organization for Research in Otolaryngology. He has demonstrated commitment to advancing evidence-based, patient-centered care through both clinical research and academic collaboration.
