Hailey Harbert is currently a third year medical student at the Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine in Blacksburg, VA and a registered nurse with a background in emergency care with plans to pursue Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Her clinical experience has shaped her interests in patient education, healthcare access and patient advocacy.
Hailey’s research focuses on improving care delivery in underserved and rural populations, with interests in rural health, global health, and access to specialty care. Her work includes research on provider preparedness for tick-borne illness in endemic rural areas, as well as projects examining otolaryngology care access in Malawi. She has also contributed to nursing scholarship through publication on major causes of mortality in the United States. Alongside her academic and clinical work, she serves in leadership and mentorship roles through medical student organizations, simulation education, and peer tutoring. In her free time, Hailey enjoys golfing, cooking, and spending time with family and friends.
