Michael B. Montalbaron, MD is a fellowship-trained laryngologist and comprehensive otolaryngologist–head and neck surgeon, currently practicing in New York City. He earned his MD from Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, where he was recognized with the Coakley Memorial Prize for outstanding achievement in otolaryngology, the Donald M. Palatucci Prize, and the Dean's Award for Outstanding Contributions to VP&S. He then completed his residency in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at NYU Grossman School of Medicine followed by a fellowship in Laryngology and Bronchoesophagology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Montalbaron's clinical and academic interests include voice, airway, and swallowing disorders, telemedicine in laryngology, recurrent laryngeal nerve regeneration, and tracheotomy outcomes. His research has been published in Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery (The White Journal), The Laryngoscope, Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, the American Journal of Otolaryngology, and other peer-reviewed journals. He has presented his work at numerous national meetings, including the AAO-HNSF Annual Meeting, COSM, and the Fall Voice Conference.
Dr. Montalbaron is passionate about medical education and has also presented Grand Rounds on the use of improvisational theater techniques in physician training. Outside of medicine, he has an extensive background in vocal performance and live improvised musical comedy performance, experiences that continue to inform his approach to communication, teaching, and patient care.
