This is a hands-on session designed for medical students that focuses on emergency airway management. Students will rotate through 3 airway stations and perform various simulated procedures on a 3D model. In the first station, students will learn how to use a flexible laryngoscope and identify relevant anatomy AND perform a cricothyrotomy. In the second station, students will work together to perform a tracheotomy on a 3D model. In the final station students will learn how to change and manage tracheostomy tubes and will demonstrate management of common trach tube-related emergencies.

This session uses a flipped classroom with a required online background module: https://forms.gle/eLhaNTgANva68uA17. Participants must score at least 70% on the pre-test for admission.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to demonstrate how to use a flexible laryngoscope and identify key anatomical laryngeal landmarks.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to demonstrate how to perform an emergency cricothyrotomy and tracheotomy.
At the conclusion of this session, participants will be able to name the components of a tracheostomy tube, demonstrate how to change a tracheostomy tube, and have an approach to common tracheostomy tube-related airway emergencies.
