Genetic hearing loss accounts for 40 to 50% of all pediatric sensory neural hearing loss. Over the many decades advancements focused on individual gene detection and cloning, and genetic testing to understand the prevalence of genetics. Gene therapy is now being performed in finite populations. Otolaryngologists need to be aware of the relevance, impacts and eligible patient populations for this novel therapy and how this presents the dawn of the new era of molecular otology.

Update the audience on the current status of gene therapy for the treatment of genetic hearing loss in children in both the US and around the world
Describe how gene therapy has developed and is now utilized as a therapeutic intra-cochlear treatment.
